AJ Brooks: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable meeting.
AJ Brooks: We meet each week at 2:30pm SLT for an hour.
AJ Brooks: I am thrilled to have, as our very special guest today, Jokay Wollongong
AJ Brooks: We will be using Voice Chat for this meeting. Please remember to keep your microphones muted. If you are having problems hearing, we have someone you can IM for support
Sam55 Chester: waves back at Iggy.
Decka Mah: Aj puts his wineglass down
AJ Brooks: (please do not post support requests in local chat). For support you can contact: Margaret Michalski, who is standing up front here.
Pathfinder Lester: Decka, lol
AJ Brooks: The Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable is a forum to educate and inform the community about issues that are important and relevant to education.
Margaret Michalski: Next to Iggy
AJ Brooks: This is a public meeting, so we do keep and publish a transcript of what is said in local chat. If you’ve not seen the transcripts, you should check them out – they are an excellent information asset.
Bevan Whitfield picks hers up @Decka
AJ Brooks: The transcripts can be found at our web psite – http://www.vwer.org – select the TRANSCRIPTS tab at the top.
AJ Brooks: Please do visit our site and send along any suggestions to me directly. You will find announcements, articles, and more.
AJ Brooks: The Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable continues to develop a community of educators from around the world with a variety of thoughts, needs, and ideas.
AJ Brooks: Please join the Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable group here in SL. You can also find us on Facebook and Flickr by our full name and Twitter @VWER.
AJ Brooks: When you blog or tweet, please remember to use the hashtag #vwer (IM me if you’re not sure what that means)
AJ Brooks: We are thrilled to have Jokay with us today, and we’ll get to that in just a moment. First, just two more quick things and then some thoughts from me before we get started,
AJ Brooks: You are welcome to use the local chat as a back channel, but if you have a question for our guest, we will be using Google Moderator.
AJ Brooks: Google Moderator is a web based tool where you can go to add a question AND/OR vote on questions that have already been posted.
AJ Brooks: The most popular questions will appear on the top of the list, and those are the questions I’ll ask our guests in voice chat.
AJ Brooks: Please note, Jokay and I will NOT be monitoring local chat, so if you’d like a question asked, please post it to Google Moderator (and also vote on the other questions that are there)
Birdie Newcomb: url?
AJ Brooks: There are URL givers on either side of the amphitheater floor and also behind me above the Montclair State sign.
Margaret Michalski: check on while box
AJ Brooks: Click on it and you will get a pop up asking you to open a web page, which will open inside the SL browser (you can also click to open it in a regular web browser)
AJ Brooks: Through this site http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=3838&t=3838.44 you will ask and vote for questions. You do need a Google account to sign in.
AJ Brooks: Finally, if you have Mystitool on, or other similar tool, please put it to sleep or detach it for now.
It tends to lag things.
AJ Brooks: As most of you know, my name is AJ Kelton and I am the Director, Emerging Instructional Technology for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University in New Jersey
AJ Brooks:
AJ Brooks: Before Jokay and I get our chat started, I have some thoughts I’d like to share with you.
AJ Brooks: A little under a year ago the SL Education Roundtable made the announcement that, effective January 2010, we would be known as the Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable, or VWER.
AJ Brooks: It has been an amazing year since that announcement and an even more awesome 10 months since the official change. So many things have happened.
AJ Brooks: One of the reasons we decided to make this change was to move away from sole reliance on Linden Lab’s product, Second Life, and to focus on the growing field of virtual environments.
AJ Brooks: We had no intention on giving up on Second Life and, as you all well know, we are still meeting here today.
AJ Brooks: The other day, Linden Lab announced that they were discontinuing the discount they previously provided to the education and non-profits sectors.
AJ Brooks: All land purchased after January 1st will be at full price and all maintenance renewals after that same date will, likewise, be at full price.
AJ Brooks: This decision certainly had a huge impact on us as an industry. And although we may hear of compromises on this new structure,
AJ Brooks: we find ourselves once again questioning our value to this company. And lets not forget that important fact, Linden Lab is, above all else, a company…a business entity.
AJ Brooks: The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University currently has two islands here in SL, Montclair State CHSS, which is the next island north of here,
AJ Brooks: and the island we are on right now, Montclair State CHSSSouth. On Tuesday we announced that, effective with our renewal in May, this island, Montclair State CHSSSouth, will not be renewed.
AJ Brooks: That means the CHSSSouth Free Land initiative will be canceled and all 20+ residents will need to find new homes.
AJ Brooks: VWER is included in that and we are, also, in the beginning phase of finding a new home. More details on that will follow.
AJ Brooks: This has renewed my commitment to pursue other non-SL virtual worlds for the VWER.
AJ Brooks: In that light, we are announcing that we are not only looking for a new place to call home here in SL, we will be looking for a home in another virtual world.
AJ Brooks: Which virtual world will depend, in part, on you.
AJ Brooks: I’ve put together a short questionnaire asking which virtual grid YOU would recommend we move to. We’ll leave that open for a couple of weeks,
AJ Brooks: after which we will take all the responses and put the top suggested ones on a survey.
AJ Brooks: This is why its important that you chime in during this first round, only the top suggestions will make it to the survey.
AJ Brooks: Once that survey is ready we will send it out and ask YOU to let us know which grid you’d be willing to meet on. This input will play a critical role in our decision.
AJ Brooks: In order to share your suggestions on which virtual world to be considered, go to this site and complete the questionnaire: http://bit.ly/9ZBCzO
AJ Brooks: If you’d like a copy of these thoughts of mine, they’ve been posted to our web site, http://www.vwer.org. I’ll also put out a notecard giver here.
AJ Brooks: Thanks for being a part of the VWER and lets keep looking forward. What’s next is far more important than what’s happened.
AJ Brooks: Looking forward and thinking about whats next seems a great segue to our topic at hand for today. I am so happy to have Jokay as our guest, welcome Jokay!
Jarrad Voom: Wait I a ma history teacher
AJ Brooks:
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Thanks. The way I generally start is this. We have Jokaydia residents and some new folks. So
Jarrad Voom: British I bet.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Tell us a bit about yourself
Kali Pizzaro: JW- I am the owner & facilitator of the Islands of jokaydia. Visit us @ jokaydia.
Visit our community blog @ http://jokaydia.com for more info!
I provide facilitation, tours, design, building services and support to educators and educational institutions exploring virtual worlds. Feel free to contact me for more info!
I’m also the creator of the Sleducation Wiki – an extensive overview of educational projects in Second Life.
Kali Pizzaro: JW- I started in 2006
Jennette Forager claps for Jokay.
Pandora Kurrajong: YAYYYY
Kali Pizzaro: exploring technology for T&L
Pipsqueak Fiddlesticks: wooo!
Kali Pizzaro: JW- my main expertise before VW was in community college
Jackie Rexen: A wiki that got “Banned” by LL – foreshadowing??
Kali Pizzaro: JW_ Sl gave me a chance to put all my skills together although i was not sure i could use it for Teaching
Kali Pizzaro: but then i got more Q from educators which led to what i do now
Kali Pizzaro: starting with sharing resources and then teaching,
AJ Brooks: post your questions here, or vote for questions posted – http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=3838&t=3838.44
Kali Pizzaro: JW- then i tried to change to looking at building communities
Kali Pizzaro: we have 4 sims
Kali Pizzaro: hey hey to all the jokadians
Kali Pizzaro: we provide low cost rental
Kali Pizzaro: and this provides space for mcQuarie Uni but also individuals
Kali Pizzaro: including hey jude
Decka Mah: TAFE = Technical and Further Education (mostly vocation ed)
Kali Pizzaro: and lots of free resources and pointers to good sites
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: 41 on sim
Kali Pizzaro: also teachers without borders in Canada and Africa
Kali Pizzaro: JW- so we have a diverse community
Kali Pizzaro: the main ties are about collaboration
Kali Pizzaro: power in the people

Chimera Cosmos: Jokaydia! Woot!
Pandora Kurrajong: plus meet in RL
Kali Pizzaro: JW_ I have developed amazingly since working in VWs
Jennette Forager: Hooray!!
Rachelle Munro: amen!
Jennette Forager smiles.
Chimera Cosmos: yeah!
Kali Pizzaro: JW- these have developed as friendships as well as educational collaborations
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: it’s an amazingly diverse community
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: You have many irons in the fire
Chimera Cosmos: I chose Jokaydia to settle on precisely because of these things
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: diverse in projects and people
Jarrad Voom: Yeah a little history.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: but first let’s go backward a bit and move on from there
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: to some extent, your name is known from the take-down of your wiki
Pathfinder Lester takes a long drink of scotch
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: LOL Path
Jennette Forager: .hahhaa
Chimera Cosmos: heheh
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Tell us a bit about that
Kali Pizzaro: JW- mmm the infamous wiki debacle
Chimera Cosmos: Path is here…hahah
Bevan Whitfield: *sighs and sips as well*
Kali Pizzaro: JW- about a year ago we got a take down
Ignatius Onomatopoeia sips water (for now). Martini to follow VWER
Kali Pizzaro: stop using SL in your wiki etc
Bevan Whitfield:
Kali Pizzaro: this meant we had to move, this was a massive blow to me as
Jennette Forager: It was brilliant.
Chimera Cosmos wants to hear what REALLY happened on the inside from Path…
Kali Pizzaro: educational technologist
Kali Pizzaro: JW- i got great support from the jokadians
Kali Pizzaro: we had a think and we decided
Pathfinder Lester was just following orders
Pandora Kurrajong: of course we supported you! that’s what community does and LL staffers used to SEND people there
Profdan Netizen: OR the money.
Kali Pizzaro: it was not worth the energy
Kali Pizzaro: to fight
Kali Pizzaro: JW- so we made some public statements and tweeted etc
Kali Pizzaro: this caused a bit of a stir
Pandora Kurrajong: So much for the spirit of burning man
LOM Runner: I’m getting jitter from Jokay
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Pandora–exactly
Kali Pizzaro: JW- when we named the wiki it was the days of the lab saying use our name please
Kali Pizzaro: please
Kali Pizzaro: JW- but hey it was a wake up call
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: at that point, you cemented your role as a leader of the community in SL
Chimera Cosmos: Assumed that Path…just wondering what they were really thinking – if anyone thought about the possible outcomes.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: we spent more time than we might have otherwise considering if the same could happen to us
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: At that point, we also began hearing about OS grids
Pandora Kurrajong: But LL showed up at the best practice conference and handed out teddy bears so all was okay… : P
Kali Pizzaro: 43 on the sim for the transcript
Jennette Forager: They lacked community, which Jokay brought there.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia recalls what he blogged…blushes.
Pandora Kurrajong: Proud of what I blogged
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: We decided to move on, rather than dwell on it
Decka Mah: and adding a shot of Tequila
Kali Pizzaro: JW- well i guess i thought
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: A year ago was a turning point for us and Jokay was responsible for it in a positive way
Kali Pizzaro: do i want to scream and yell
Bevan Whitfield: (don’t think tequila and scotch mix)
Kali Pizzaro: or do i want to turn it into something positive
Ignatius Onomatopoeia is not ashamed of *what* I said then, just how.
Chimera Cosmos adds Gin and Tonic to the mix…..mwahahahaha
Kali Pizzaro: JW- thanks to Pandora, Dean and sapphire
Kali Pizzaro: they all looked out and about
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: what a bunch o’ tipplers today
Kali Pizzaro: I knew about RG but it was not
Kali Pizzaro: stable at that point
Kali Pizzaro: but when we returned the welcome was great
Kali Pizzaro: they wanted to listen
Kali Pizzaro: about education
Kali Pizzaro: this gave us energy to recover
Chimera Cosmos: learning is what SL is all about
Kali Pizzaro: so hey ho scary LL lawyers
Jennette Forager: Nothing beats a bit of Virtual Dancing to lift the heart.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: you got involved with RG’s mainland grid
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: as I understand it, Reaction Grid offers a mainland grid and private sims as well
Chimera Cosmos: simS
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: originally, you were on the mainland and then moved to a private grid
Kali Pizzaro: JW- yeah we went and explored
Pandora Kurrajong: GRID – she’s a Grid Goddess
Kali Pizzaro: different sims
Chimera Cosmos: Multi-grid rentals rule!
Kali Pizzaro: JW- but RG were listening

Kali Pizzaro: we started at one sim
Kali Pizzaro: on the main grid environment
Kali Pizzaro: as pioneers
Sapphire Ceawlin: Starting from almost scratch..
Kali Pizzaro: but it was not up to performance
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: 44 on sim
Kali Pizzaro: to run performance
Kali Pizzaro: so we needed to have a space where i could run projects
Kali Pizzaro: so after 3 months
Kali Pizzaro: we upgraded to a 4 sims
Kali Pizzaro: space
Kali Pizzaro: which gives us console
Kali Pizzaro: asset
Kali Pizzaro: and still be connected to Reaction Grid
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: so folks who are on the main RG can get to the Jokaydia grid?
Kali Pizzaro: JW- yes
Kali Pizzaro: but what we have just done recently
Kali Pizzaro: we have upgraded to our own servers
Kali Pizzaro: so we have our own grid
Kali Pizzaro: now
Kali Pizzaro: but still offer me support
Kali Pizzaro: which they are great at
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: So you are separate from the main grid in RG?
Pandora Kurrajong: She’s SO been waiting for that question!
Kali Pizzaro: JW- well what it
Kali Pizzaro: means you can join
Kali Pizzaro: us only
Kali Pizzaro: or you can jump from grid to grid
Pathfinder Lester: http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Hypergrid
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: “I have seen the future”
Kali Pizzaro: so we can jump from the grid to the sim
Kali Pizzaro: if you look south you will see the
Kali Pizzaro: teleport
Jennette Forager: Pretty cool!
Chimera Cosmos: Spiral and I rent on SL Jokaydia but it includes a small space on Jokaydia Grid too
Kali Pizzaro: so we are our own grid but still remained linked to RG
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: I sense a field trip coming on
Jarrad Voom: yes
Jarrad Voom: yes
Rachelle Munro: yes! love field trips!
hobbs Constantine: yes
Zotarah Shepherd: yes
Moggy Madrigal: yes
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: VWER to visit your grid. I wanted to bring up this question
Pandora Kurrajong: Sapphy and I have decided to go in on a whole sim on the Jokaydia Grid
Gramma Fiddlesticks: strongly suggest field trips are in order for several grids
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Now that you are running your own grid, are you leaving SL?
Kali Pizzaro: JW- Absolutely NOT it is the community
Jennette Forager: The community is the gold.
Kali Pizzaro: that i am here
Chimera Cosmos: Hear hear!
Kali Pizzaro: for
hobbs Constantine: awwwwww
AJ Brooks: post your questions here, or vote for questions posted – http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=3838&t=3838.44
Profdan Netizen: Agreed, Jen.
Kali Pizzaro: JW- so we will probably focus less ion Sl
Kali Pizzaro: but never leave
Kali Pizzaro: and will offer
Kali Pizzaro: jokadians
Kali Pizzaro: a plot
Kali Pizzaro: and use all the resources in any of the grids
Kali Pizzaro: the community is the
Kali Pizzaro: thing
Kali Pizzaro: there is still some things that Sl is better at OS

Kali Pizzaro: so we want to maximise
Jennette Forager grins.
Chimera Cosmos: heh
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: We think alike on many things!
Jennette Forager: O pioneers!
Kali Pizzaro: our use of platforms
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: please post your questions to moderator
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: The remarks I made at the start are in a notecard in the black box on the table between us
Sapphire Ceawlin: it gives us access to age appropriate spaces and more objects atm
jokay Wollongong: woot kali and iggy
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Kali and that freak in dreads are summarizing what I and Jokay are saying
Zotarah Shepherd: Yay Iggy and Kali
Margaret Michalski: doing a good job too
Jennette Forager: hahha, Iggy!
Chimera Cosmos: doh!
Jozen Ocello: appreciate
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: this is for folks who cannot hear voice today
Chimera Cosmos: grin
Kali Pizzaro: we get no pay we work all day
Jarrad Voom: loosely summarizing eh Iggy
AJ Brooks: post your questions here, or vote for questions posted – http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=3838&t=3838.44
Jozen Ocello: it rhymes, Kali
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: We are at an interesting time now. I want to talk about the price increase, but let’s save it for the end
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Please vote on the questions posted.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: One of the things that came up at the start of today is where DO you get your energy? You do so many things
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: If you were to dust off your crystal ball, what is the state of virtual worlds at the moment?
Kali Pizzaro: JW- the pricing has come at a time when educators were
Kali Pizzaro: a bit twitchy
Kali Pizzaro: it has given me a lot of interest in
Kali Pizzaro: OS and policy in Sl
Sapphire Ceawlin: creeping towards tipping point for mainstream
Kali Pizzaro: it has just sped things
Kali Pizzaro: up
Kali Pizzaro: JW_ i see educators as savvy
Kali Pizzaro: they are highly networked
Margaret Michalski: yes…more than I realized
Kali Pizzaro: so folk will listen and collaborate
Kali Pizzaro: JW- i think we can haz very virtual worlds
Kali Pizzaro: we can work in many places
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I gots me a heap o’ them-there lives
Kali Pizzaro: we can have a metaverse for education
Kali Pizzaro: t ensure best practice
Chimera Cosmos: me too – lost count of grids I went to!
Chimera Cosmos: heh
Kali Pizzaro: also with the gaming and mmo’s
Pandora Kurrajong: who?
AJ Brooks: post your questions here, or vote for questions posted – http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=3838&t=3838.44
Jennette Forager: or not so secretly!
Jennette Forager: ha!
Kali Pizzaro: we might be in wow etc but don’t tell anyone
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: hah–paper & pencil RPGs for ol’ me
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: seems like there is great balance to me
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: I hear you saying that “stuff is gonna happen”
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: We have already seen grids vanish in the last year. It’s a fluid market
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: It’s like an investment portfolio that you balance
Chimera Cosmos: Jokay can’t help exploring heheh
Kali Pizzaro: JW- as a developer yes of course
Chimera Cosmos: it is in her genes
Kali Pizzaro: i need to get a understanding of many
Kali Pizzaro: i am a bit of a geek
Kali Pizzaro: oh sorry like technology
Kali Pizzaro:
Kali Pizzaro: they strength of the community is what binds us together not the platform
Sapphire Ceawlin: the community is very long lived
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Community is essential. This group, for instance.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: mostly we sit around and talk with each other, not to each other
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: whatever the fate of LL, community is what is important
Margaret Michalski: yes, I hope educators stay a big community
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: I think they will be bought, though I have no inside info on this
Chimera Cosmos: Kim Anubis told me yesterday that she started in There and moved to SL in 2004. Did not know that.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: From my experience in the business world, the recent moves are typical before a buy-out. Of course this is speculation
Sapphire Ceawlin: and an exit strategy to some degree
Pathfinder Lester: ?
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: This is why educators need balance and community. They need to explore other options
Pathfinder Lester: here’s that link: http://metaversetv.com/blog/2010/10/mbc-news-universities-and-non-profits/
Kali Pizzaro: JW- i think that is key
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: NBC story…educators bring their constituency with it. Our students follow us when we do something new.

Kali Pizzaro: the great lesson is we cant put all eggs in one basket
Kali Pizzaro: in 2006 it was a bit of a love in
AJ Brooks: post your questions here, or vote for questions posted – http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=3838&t=3838.44
Ignatius Onomatopoeia sings “Love Machine” by the Miracles
Kali Pizzaro: but we need to remember LL is a company
Zotarah Shepherd: Good to have a backup plan in any case.
Kali Pizzaro: we need to be flexible enough
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: coughs
Kali Pizzaro: to move if need be
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Feel free to add more questions and vote on current ones
Kali Pizzaro: look like him
Profdan Netizen: YOu need suspenders.
AJ Brooks sneers at Kali
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Lindy Mac from Seattle asks “what are some of the challenges and opportunities of working in OpenSim?”
You decline Game Night ISTE Island (120, 63, 30) from A group member named Mandie Mimulus.
Kali Pizzaro: JW- flexibility!!
Kali Pizzaro: we make the rules
Kali Pizzaro: we run a pG grid
Kali Pizzaro: all comers welcome
Kali Pizzaro: 9- adults
Pathfinder Lester: i blogged today about my experiences setting up OpenSim on a USB key: http://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/10/07/a-virtual-world-in-my-hands-running-opensim-and-imprudence-on-a-usb-key/
Kali Pizzaro: we can parents and kids
Kali Pizzaro: on at the same time
Kali Pizzaro: one of the kids was showing his english teachers
Chimera Cosmos: yes!
Chimera Cosmos: I tell folks about him all the time
Kali Pizzaro: Henny ran a summer school
Kali Pizzaro: they hung out for a week
Kali Pizzaro: in jokadia
Chimera Cosmos: how networking in SL expanded his professional reach so incredibly
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yay for OAR files
Kali Pizzaro: and they did a whole lot of activities
Profdan Netizen: very cool
Kali Pizzaro: and hey is now away on his own
AJ Brooks: post your questions here, or vote for questions posted – http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=3838&t=3838.44\
Pathfinder Lester is totally in love with OAR files
Kali Pizzaro: he has made a logo for new texture business
Kali Pizzaro: you can customise your environment – hey Rob
Kali Pizzaro: we have much more scope for this stuff
Kali Pizzaro: I love the kids they are fantastic
Rob Merchi: hsc is final high school qualification before college / uni in australia
Kali Pizzaro: JW- they blow me away
Kali Pizzaro: JW- challenges – voice
Kali Pizzaro: mumble is on its way
Kali Pizzaro: jokadia is speedy but some are not so speedy
Kali Pizzaro: concurrency can be a challenge
Pathfinder Lester: mesh import will happen on OpenSim soon after LL releases it, too. http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2010/09/opensim-to-have-mesh-soon-after-second-life/
Kali Pizzaro: scripting is a bit different
Kali Pizzaro: so it it not like for like
Kali Pizzaro: but we are starting to share
Kali Pizzaro: but it is a wee content pool
Margaret Michalski: Yes, some grids can have close to 30 on a sim
Kali Pizzaro: (had to get a wee in somewhere)
Margaret Michalski: yes, lack of scripters
Rob Merchi: az is amazing …
Kali Pizzaro: JW- textures can be a problem but we need to find the solution

Kali Pizzaro: JW – it gives us a opportunity to innovate
Kali Pizzaro: oh typo
Kali Pizzaro: city
Kali Pizzaro: JW – RG has a great market with lots of freebies
Gramma Fiddlesticks: animations!
Kali Pizzaro: and OS had freebie
Kali Pizzaro: store
Pandora Kurrajong: was hard at first
Gramma Fiddlesticks: yep
Kali Pizzaro: JW- animations are a challenge
Kali Pizzaro: but its coming
Pathfinder Lester thinks the most important things in virtual worlds are not things. it’s the people with the talent to create things that matters. and that is portable to any grid.
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: every OpenSIm AO for guys has a “swayback” walk….what a hoot.
Pandora Kurrajong: when first on RG was like being shipwrecked – but is changing
Decka Mah: more users will speed up the availability of stuff
Margaret Michalski: new people bring skills with them so those issues should go away
Kali Pizzaro: JW-right Decka
Kali Pizzaro: move folk more stuff
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: next Q from Lisa. “Is it a good idea to transition fully out of SL?”
Kali Pizzaro: JW- i think it is a good idea to be multigrid but not leave SL
Kali Pizzaro: but if the price hike
Chimera Cosmos: rent smaller space at places like Jokaydia and Chilbo
Kali Pizzaro: is causing major worry
Kali Pizzaro: then maybe share space
Gramma Fiddlesticks: spent some toe dipping time already
Kali Pizzaro: JW_ I think you need avatars in other VWs
Kali Pizzaro: pack but don’t leave
LOM Runner: right… no university sims is busy 24/7
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: John Lester just said in his blog that we are pioneers, we are learners
Chimera Cosmos: absolutely
Kali Pizzaro: we could have space plus with timezomes
Pathfinder Lester: this is the blog post AJ is referring to: http://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/10/05/with-every-exodus-comes-expansion-educators-and-non-profits-in-second-life/
Kali Pizzaro: zones
Margaret Michalski: I try to look at individual projects
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: We are good at this. We should take this opportunity to research, to continue exploring
Kali Pizzaro: yep AJ
Kali Pizzaro: JW- yeah i agree
Kali Pizzaro: agree
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: We don’t exclude K-12, libraries from our company but we higher ed folks are researchers. This situation is an opportunity to do research. We are good at it.
Kali Pizzaro: educators are great at that and at sharing
Kali Pizzaro: the community then shares
Kali Pizzaro: collective learning
Kali Pizzaro: and sharing as we pioneer
Kali Pizzaro: its fun as well
Sapphire Ceawlin: but that is also a function of the community we are part of
Kali Pizzaro: JW- the opening of horizons is exciting
Kali Pizzaro: JW-
Chimera Cosmos: heh
Kali Pizzaro: JW_ yep a opportunity
Pathfinder Lester still has the scars
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: (bad) Joe asks if Jokay sees the cease-and-desist order as an opportunity and how it has changed her relationship to VWs
Pandora Kurrajong: good
Kali Pizzaro: i was angry but hey i turned it around to a look at it positively
Chimera Cosmos passes some neosporine to Path
Kali Pizzaro: JW- it made me reconnect to my first love of VWs
Kali Pizzaro: building and sharing
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: nice
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: you are the good Jo
Rob Merchi: and jo does build amazing experiences – believe me
Gramma Fiddlesticks: we lose sight of the “majic” that can happen.

Kali Pizzaro: JW- not a massive VW
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Are you planning to expand Jokaydia?
Kali Pizzaro: we have capacity for 80 sims
Kali Pizzaro: and we may upgrade but
Kali Pizzaro: we want to spread our wings
Chimera Cosmos: people who want to be alone should not move to Jokahydia! ahhahah
Kali Pizzaro: and not be tied to one place
Ignatius Onomatopoeia: AJ: Grinn asks “any sense about how to maintain our community if we disperse to multiple worlds?”
Kali Pizzaro: JW- they key is how we keep the
Kali Pizzaro: connections in SM
Jarrad Voom: And having a central place for meetings like this
Kali Pizzaro: JW_ tweet, wiki etc
Decka Mah: we manage to get together at various f2f conferences around the world why not on various virtual worlds
